8420 IP Dual-Sided Display Speaker

IP Dual-Sided Visual Display Speaker for Visual and Audible Alerting and Notification.

Algo’s 8420 IP Dual-Sided Visual Display Speaker is a dual-sided, SIP-compliant notification device that comprises three core components – 15.6″ LCD screens, high-intelligibility speakers, and high-visibility LED flashers – to create highly flexible and effective visual and audible communication.

The combined functionality of the LCD display screens, speakers, and flashing LEDs enable voice paging, visual or audible alerting, and informational visual content, such as scrolling text messages, visual paging, or graphic images to be conveyed in opposite directions.

Description

The 8420 IP Dual-Sided Display Speaker provides dual-sided enhanced visual and audible intelligibility for effective communication in hallways, corridors, or large, open environments. The dual-sided design enables audible and visual communication and messaging to be projected down long corridors or hallways in opposite directions.  The combined functionality of the two-sided LCD display screen, speakers, and flashing LEDs enable voice paging, visual or audible alerting, and informational visual content, such as scrolling text messages, visual paging, or graphic images. Two-way communication can also be established through the embedded microphone, so real-time updates can easily be provided to admin staff. When idle, the Display Speakers can display a graphic image, rotate through a variety of images, display a clock face (analog and/or digital synchronized to NTP), or go to sleep.

The primary element of the 8420 is the LCD display screens. With unlimited visual possibilities, the screens can produce scrolling text, flashing announcements, full-color images, or key data points, such as dates and times. Combined with LED backlighting and wide-angle viewing, the visual display screens can be seen from anywhere in a room or along a hallway on either side. Visual displays can easily be customized to complement an audio announcement or bring communication to an audio-less environment.

For audible alerting the 8420 offers similar functionality and voice quality as any Algo speaker, delivering wideband audio (HD voice) for clear voice communication and attention-grabbing audible alerting. An embedded microphone is included to enable ambient noise response and two-way talkback capabilities.

The LED flashers provide additional attention-getting awareness to complement the display on the screen and the audio from the wideband speakers. The multicolor LED can deliver alerts in different patterns and color codes to represent a variety of messages (i.e. flashing red for lockdown).

The 8420 is a SIP-compliant IP endpoint that seamlessly integrates into most leading VoIP communication systems.

A single-sided alternative with a flush-mount installation suitable for classrooms, lecture halls, waiting rooms, and offices is available as the 8410 IP Display Speaker.

Scale Algo IP Dual-Sided Display Speakers with Multicast

The 8420 IP Dual Sided Display Speaker supports multicast send or receive. As a result, many Algo IP Dual-Sided Display Speakers can be deployed to cover any size building, campus (e.g., classrooms in a school, college or university) or enterprise. There is no limit to the number of devices part of a multicast, and a minimum of network traffic activity is utilized.

Multicast provides cost-effective scalability using a minimum of SIP registered endpoints, as only the endpoint designated to send the multicast needs to be registered. Devices configured to receive the multicast do not need registration. Any combination and number of Algo IP endpoints can be configured as a multicast for emergency alerting to cover any size room, building, campus or enterprise. Support is available for RTP multicast, in addition to Poly Group Page, Singlewire InformaCast (part no. 8420-IC) and Intrado Revolution.

While the 8420 IP Dual-Sided Display Speaker can be deployed as a multicast sender, the most common use case would be to configure the 8420 IP Dual-Sided Display Speakers as multicast receivers. In this example, organizations can utilize an additional Algo product, most commonly the Algo 8301 IP Paging Adapter and Scheduler, to be the multicast sender, keeping that device stored safely within a secured location. By utilizing the 8301 IP Paging Adapter and Scheduler as the multicast sender device organizations can tap into the advanced calendaring functionality to pre-schedule voice messages, visual communication, and announcements via multicast.

Visual Display Screen

The 8420 comprises two 15.6” LCD screens that display identical content down hallways, corridors, and large, open environments. The wide-angle LCD screens ensure effective visual communication can be optimally viewed at any angle from both directions. When not in use, the display screens can be configured to auto-dim during off-hours. With the complete flexibility of the LCD display screens, any combination of images, text, or clock can be presented.

A number of preloaded display options are available, such as lockdown, emergency, weather alerts, etc. However, the LCD screens are fully customizable to allow for communication with specific branding and environmental requirements.

The display clock can be shown as either analog or digital and is synchronized with NTP.

With a highly customizable LCD screen, communication options are endless. Common screen displays include:

  • Scrolling text
  • Images
  • Notifications
  • Clock – analog or digital
  • Daily messages
  • Welcome signs
  • Rotating display/slideshow

High Intelligibility Speakers (HD Audio)

Designed for optimum clarity of sound with wideband audio (HD G.722 voice codec), the dual-sided speakers in the 8420 have the same level of intelligibility and quality as all Algo IP Speakers. Wideband audio produces high-intelligibility speech for clear and crisp IP paging, announcements, and notifications.

Algo speakers include an embedded microphone to enable ambient noise response and two-way talkback. With ambient ambient noise detection activated, the volume will automatically adjust to an appropriate level based on the environment. For environments that are noise sensitive or may not allow sound at all, the visual display and the flashers are used for attention-grabbing alerts and notifications.

.

High-Visibility LED Flashers

With four color options available – red, amber, green and blue – the LED flashers on either side of the 8420 allow for multi-color alerting. Color coding can be used to represent different kinds of notifications and alerts. Paired with the multiple flash patterns available, a user has complete flexibility in their mass notification environment. The flashers also allow for different intensities to be either the most attention-getting or to be a little more subtle based on the environment.

Utilizing the IP Display Speaker as an Integrated Solution

Customizability

With the combination of dual-sided speakers, LCD screens, and flashers, the 8420 IP Display Speaker is a highly customizable and flexible mass communication device. While an audible page is being made, the message could also be displayed as scrolling text on the screen so those who may not be able to hear an announcement clearly can also read the message to ensure they receive the full details.

In an emergency situation, such as a lockdown, the flashers can be used to quickly capture attention while instructions are played over the speakers and screen.

Vertical Application

Education

In education settings, the 8420 IP Display Speaker can be installed in large, open, high-traffic locations, such as hallways, cafeterias, and corridors. Along a hallway, the features of the 8420 IP Display Speaker can ensure that building occupants can be notified of the events in the school while on the go. The basic display shown on the screen can be set to a customizable image with the school branding, display a slideshow of news events relating to the school, or display a clock, either analog or digital.

Healthcare

In a hospital, the 8420 IP Display Speaker can be used for both audible and visual alerting. Audible alerting can be used to inform staff, patients, and guests of general information through paging and pre-recorded audio messages. Visual alerting can be used to complement audio or on its own, displaying pertinent information or messaging down corridors or in hospital wings where noise sensitivity needs to be considered.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing facilities often require effective communication to navigate very challenging environments. The 8420 IP Display Speaker can be used to deliver key messages through audible and visual alerting. It can alert workers with loud ringing capability when there’s a phone ringing or emergency announcement. It can also be used as a visual notification device when a tool or machine is in use. The flexibility of the device allows for complete customizability based on the event and can display on the screen pertinent messaging, such as “machine in use, caution when entering” or “machine in use, do not enter”.
