Social Services Agency Records Calls to Help Children at Risk

Steve Thomas of Westside Youth Network, a social services agency in Chicago, uses a network of Algo’s 4102 Digital AuxBox call recorders to record important calls on their Nortel Norstar telephone system. According to Thomas, the Algo Enterprise Call Recording System was straightforward to install, is simple to maintain, and provides secure, reliable, and easy-to-retrieve records.

Westside Youth Network provides mental health services including pre-admission screening, crisis stabilization, and follow-up services to children with a mental illness or emotional disorder. A key service offered by Westside is a telephone hotline designed for use by children who are at psychiatric risk and who pose a danger to themselves or others.

"Keeping accurate call records is pivotal to what we do here at Westside", says Thomas. In addition to archiving all important calls, the organization uses the recorders for telephone operator quality assurance and for training.

“The Algo system has been a real lifesaver”, says Thomas. “There have been tons of times where people have said ‘we were told this’ or ‘we were told that’ and we were able to go back and quickly determine exactly what was said.”

The reliability of the Algo system has also been impressive, according to Thomas. "On several occasions our SMDR (Station Message Detail Recording) call accounting system stopped functioning and we lost key data on how many calls were coming in. However, we were able to quickly go into the Algo system which also kept these records and fully recover the data.”

An Algo customer since 2004, Westside currently uses thirteen 4102 Digital AuxBoxes in conjunction with Algo’s ECR Enterprise Call Recording Software. Thomas plans to add several more stations in the near future and is also considering moving up to Algo’s Enterprise Call Recording Shelf.
